For a Greener Tomorrow

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Periodically we ask Nuvera’s employees what they do to promote a greener tomorrow…besides working at a fuel cell company!

When the train doesn’t stop at Fenway, instead of flagging a cab I hire a rickshaw for a ride to the park!

Nuvera Presents at DOE 2007 Annual Merit Review

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Michael Leschiner, James Cross and Darryl Pollica presented at the DOE 2007 Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation in Washington DC on May 15-18, 2008. The Annual Merit Review gives principal researchers an opportunity to present the status and results of their projects that are funded by DOE’s Hydrogen Program. Michael, James and Darryl presented a poster on Nuvera’s Cost-effective High efficiency Advanced Reformer Module (CHARM) project, which you can view below (click on the image to enlarge).

Some of the major findings were:

  • Improved durability of Superheater, tested for over 1600 hours and 43 cold cycles
  • Catalyst testing confirmed significantly improved hydrothermal stability, anti-cooking and crush strength
  • Implemented new desulfurization material that is chemisorptions based

Additionally, James Cross presented an update on “Subfreezing Start/Stop Protocol for an Advanced Metallic Open-Flowfield Fuel Cell Stack.”

Kevin Beverage Wins MassRIDES Challenge

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Kevin Beverage, Lead Process Engineer at Nuvera, was one of five winners of the MassRIDES Bike to Work Week challenge! The challenge took place from May 12th through May 16th, and promoted bicycling as a viable commuting option. Bicyclists were asked to log their daily miles, which were then compared to commuters across the state for the title of “Most Miles” and “Longest Commute.”

Kevin Beverage won the MassRIDES Bike to Work Week Challenge

Kevin won the “Longest Commute” division, logging 32 miles on a one way trip. Congratulations Kevin!

East Penn Talks Fuel Cells and Forklifts with DC Velocity

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Jim Rubright of East Penn Manufacturing sat down with DC Velocity’s James Cooke to talk about fuel cells, expanding their Deka battery product line and running “crisp.” The article, in this month’s DC Velocity, covers the rigorous testing that East Penn is conducting on its ReadyPower unit, co-developed with Nuvera, at their 180,000 square foot distribution center. Cooke’s grasp of the overall picture of the fuel cell material handling market is quite solid, and he gives a good overview of East Penn and Nuvera’s stake in the game. The only slip up? The PowerTap hydrogen refueler used at the Topton Distribution Center dispenses gaseous hydrogen, not liquid as he indicates.
