The Sintesi is a fuel cell concept car developed by Pininfarina which features Nuvera's Quadrivium Drive. Nuvera's new Quadrivium Drive incorporates world-leading hydrogen generation technology with our state-of-the-art fuel cell in distributed wheel power modules to allow car designers complete freedom in powertrain packaging. Based on our proven Andromeda fuel cell and STAR hydrogen generator technologies, the Quadrivium Drive combines the high efficiency of fuel cells with the ability to operate on both conventional and biofuels. Having higher efficiency as compared to an internal combustion engine, fuel economy is greatly increased while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, when operating on biofuels, the technology has no net greenhouse gas emissions. Quadrivium Drive delivers the high-powered performance expected from today's engines without any of the harmful pollutants. This revolutionary fuel cell system harmonizes four competing interests in one package: power, efficiency, ecology and fuel flexibility. Quadrivium: The Power of Four.
Sintesi is powered by four Nuvera fuel cells (one per wheel), each delivering a maximum of 20-kW electrical power each, giving a total 80-kW for the whole vehicle. In addition, a battery can deliver a further 20-kW per wheel in sport mode, or a total of 80-kW additional boost power for acceleration and short-term speed. In normal mode, this boost is limited to 10-kW per wheel to improve endurance.
