The HDL-82 power module combines the recently released, highly advanced Nuvera Andromeda stack, with a balance of plant and high-efficiency air compressor developed by Centro Ricerche Fiat. This highly modular system operates with such efficiency and robustness, it is equally at home in light- and heavy-duty transportation applications.
The system operates at low pressure and without external humidification, which allows simplification of the plant's architecture. The reduction in parts also reduces parasitic power losses and simplifies the control of the system, resulting in higher efficiency and enhanced reliability.
Since 1999, Nuvera and Centro Ricerche Fiat have collaborated on the development of advanced fuel cell power modules for transportation applications. In March 2006, Nuvera signed an agreement with Fiat Powertrain and Centro Ricerche Fiat to further develop a fuel cell power module for transportation applications.
The new power module, which is based on the award-winning design currently under testing in the Fiat Seicento and Fiat Panda, available April 2006, may allow OEMs around the world to launch a technically, economically, and environmentally viable fuel cell vehicle by 2010.
During the product development process, the major components of the system were designed to maximize packaging modularity and system operating efficiency, taking into account the required trade-offs in each component.
