How a Fuel Processor WorksNuvera is a world leader in the development of compact, distributed hydrogen generation technologies. Fuel processors consist of multiple catalytic reactors, fluidic devices and heat exchangers, configured to efficiently extract hydrogen from fuel and water.

There are two main classes of applications and corresponding technologies:

Industrial high efficiency steam reforming systems, running predominantly on natural gas. This technology is the core of our PowerTap™ product.

Automotive ultra compact autothermal reforming systems, running primarily on conventional liquid fuels: from gasoline to diesel, to ethanol and bio diesel.

The Nuvera Difference™
Nuvera has demonstrated three different reforming technologies.  -->  Steam
Autothermal
Partial Oxidation
Nuvera can convert nearly any hydrocarbon-based or renewable fuel into hydrogen:  -->  Gasoline, natural gas, methanol, ethanol propane, butane, diesel, home heating oil, and others.
Nuvera is developing advanced fuel processors that are set to crack the last remaining barriers to onboard fuel processing.  -->  Less than 30-second start time.
Water self-efficiency.
Nuvera has a proven record of reformer size reduction.  -->  Results of advanced catalyst R&D.
World-class 1-kW/liter power density.
Nuvera has built and tested fuel processors in the 500-W to 250-kW range.  -->  Achieved efficiencies of 70 to 90 percent.
Nuvera has demonstrated that onboard reformers are environmentally responsible.  -->  Meets SULEV, EU, EPA and 2007 CARB standards.
