On November 10, 2016, 100 government officials, terminal operators, environmental advocates, and technology solutions providers met at the Port of Los Angeles to discuss how the use of hydrogen in the nation’s seaports can dramatically reduce toxic air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. It was the largest recorded turnout in the 28-year history of the Annual NYC Equipment and Vehicle Show. On May 12, 2016 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York, nearly 170 exhibitors showcased the latest in vehicles and equipment. Interest was focused on the large contingent of vendors supporting New York City’s Clean Fleet and Vision Zero initiatives. Among the cost drivers of electricity usage in your materials handling facility, lift truck battery chargers could be among the biggest electricity consumers. Battery chargers can also drive up additional annual peak demand charges for your building. Hydrogen fuel cell forklifts are not just an economical fit for mega-warehouses with fleets of 100 trucks or more. Nuvera’s on-site hydrogen generator is helping fuel cell power make sense for modest-sized fleets as well. For example, a Nuvera hydrogen-supplied fleet was able to switch to fuel cells with only seven reach trucks and 10 pallet jacks that consume about 25 kg of hydrogen in 24 hours. The daily cost savings achieved with a hydrogen-powered fleet easily justified the investment.

PRESS RELEASE: Billerica, Mass., May 16, 2014 — A PowerTap^® hydrogen generator went live at Ace Hardware's new state-of-the-art Retail Support Center in West Jefferson, Ohio. This is the second facility for Ace that is equipped with a Nuvera^® PowerTap PT-50 on-site hydrogen generator and fueling solution. The system produces and dispenses up to 50 kg/day of high-purity hydrogen to service a fleet of 35 fuel cell-powered reach trucks and 36 fuel cell pallet jacks running a single 10-hour shift, five days a week, plus a floor scrubber. The investment is expected to result in electrical consumption savings for Ace of 330,115 kWh annually by avoiding the need to charge a battery-powered fleet.

PRESS RELEASE: Billerica, Mass., August 23, 2013 — Nuvera Fuel Cells, in a new partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Thermo King, a manufacturer of transport temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is using advanced fuel cell technology to power transport refrigeration units (TRUs) on tractor trailers used to deliver frozen foods and fresh produce to supermarkets. Using fuel cells in place of the more commonly used diesel generators will cut carbon emissions and reduce noise pollution.
