Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC, a provider of fuel cell power solutions for motive applications, announced that its fuel cell technology is an integral component of a recently announced partnership between Hyster-Yale Group and Capacity Trucks to develop electric and hydrogen-powered terminal tractors to be deployed in shipping ports globally.

Heavy-duty fleet operators across the globe are turning to fuel cell innovation to reduce emissions and increase efficiency and productivity. “We are excited that both Hyster-Yale Group and Capacity see the benefits of introducing hydrogen-powered products, and proud that Nuvera is the exclusive supplier for this partnership,” said Lucien Robroek, CEO of Nuvera. “We look forward to bringing Nuvera’s unique fuel cell products and capabilities to terminal tractor fleets at ports, distribution centers, and intermodal operations.”

Hyster-Yale Group and Capacity Trucks are targeting 2021 to have initial terminal tractor prototypes available for market testing.

Nuvera’s expertise lies in integrating its fuel cell products into industrial trucks, including providing power solutions for forklifts, and E-45 and E-60 Fuel Cell Engines for heavy-duty motive applications. Nuvera® fuel cell engines are to be used to provide power for two Hyster® electric container handler models to be deployed at shipping ports in the U.S. and in Europe. In addition, qualification of Nuvera® E-45 and E-60 engines by the Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Center enables their use in buses, logistics trucks, and other motor vehicles in China.
