Billerica, Mass., June 16, 2022Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC, a provider of heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell engines for on- and off-road mobility and other applications, announces an order for an E-Series Fuel Cell Engine from CMT, a propulsion technology research institute at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain.

Focusing on accelerating the widespread adoption of zero-emission vehicle power sources, CMT is building a 200 kW fuel cell test bench facility in collaboration with AVL, a worldwide engineering leader. In its new test facility, CMT will evaluate the use of Nuvera’s fuel cell engines for multiple motive applications, such as road and aerospace sectors, as the primary power unit or as a range-extender power supply system. Nuvera and CMT will jointly pursue near-term opportunities for project demonstrations.

“Nuvera is pleased to have its innovative E-Series fuel cell engine selected by CMT for evaluation for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles,” said Santiago Bresani, sales and business development leader for Nuvera Fuel Cells Europe. “Valencia is already leading the way for fuel cell vehicle adoption. The Port of Valencia is expected to be the first port in Europe to incorporate hydrogen reachstackers into operation, under the H2Ports project funded by European Horizon 2020 program.” This Hyster® container handling equipment will be powered by Nuvera fuel cell engines.

According to Dr. Ricardo Novella, Associate Professor and Project Leader at CMT, “As a research institute, our motivation focuses on the study of the most advanced power units for mobility applications, as is the case with Nuvera fuel cell products, through the use of the most advanced experimental and numerical techniques. This cooperation between Nuvera and CMT is a great opportunity to exploit our synergies, with the common objective of using hydrogen fuel cells to address energy sectors that are especially difficult to decarbonize.”

With high-performance fuel cell stack technology at its core, Nuvera® E-Series Fuel Cell Engines include a fully integrated compressor and patented control logic for optimized operation. Enabling electrified powertrains for buses, trucks, off-road vehicles and stationary equipment, they are available for immediate shipment.
